I have been involved with family-owned businesses all of my life. Over 100 years ago in 1913, my Great-Grandfather had the entrepreneurial drive to start a new enterprise – to be the local undertaker.
After graduating from high school and having a connection to funeral service, I followed in my Great-Grandfather footsteps and became a funeral director at the locally-owned funeral home in Victoria, BC.
Both meanings of the term UNDERTAKER applied to my Great-Grandfather and to me…
un·der·tak·er
Definition of undertaker.
1 : one who undertakes : one who takes the risk and management of business : entrepreneur.
2 : one whose business is to prepare the dead for burial and to arrange and manage funerals.
I received my funeral director’s license and worked my way up the ranks where I was the go-to person for marketing and technology. Eventually, I was getting requests from other funeral homes throughout North America for help in these areas.
Having that same entrepreneurial spirit as my Great-Grandfather, I ventured off to create my own media and consulting company where I help locally-owned funeral homes and cemeteries, plus other locally owned businesses. I went back to university where I received my Bachelor of Commerce degree in Entrepreneurial Management. Since then I have worked with First Nations entrepreneurs, realtors, mortgage brokers, naturopathic doctors, business consultants, dentists, interior designers, wedding planners – AND HOPEFULLY YOU!
